The two traditional powers sit six points behind league-leaders Inter Milan, but Rossoneri striker Andriy Shevchenko knows that beyond the standings, Milan's encounters with Juve carry a little something extra.

"A game like this is the most important in Italy in terms of wins," Shevchenko told the club's official website. "The two teams who won most in Italy and on the international scene will be facing each other.

"Now in the standings we have the same number of points, both teams want to win and it will be tough for us as well as for them. The Scudetto? The road is still long, we at Milan must always play to win."

While it might be a bit premature to call Sunday's match a potential Scudetto deciding fixture, both teams know that a win would put them in sole possession of second place and give them momentum heading into the New Year.

"I don't know if it will already be decisive for the Scudetto, but I know we will do everything we can to win it, as we always do when we go on the pitch," Juventus defender Zdenek Grygera said.

The biggest absence for either side will be the loss of Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso, who damaged knee ligaments in Sunday's 1-0 win over Catania and will undergo surgery that could keep him out the rest of the season.

Emerson, Mathieu Flamini and Massimo Ambrosini figure to replace the Italian international in the lineup, but no one player can replicate Gattuso's dogged determination and physical presence in the center of the field.

Milan enters the game having won only two of its last five games, while Juve has been one of the hottest teams in Serie A with seven wins in its last eight games.

Inter tries to keep its six-point cushion with a win over last-place Chievo, while fourth-place Napoli hosts Lecce on Saturday.

Two of the bottom four clubs in the table, Bologna and Torino, square off in Saturday's other game, fifth-place Fiorentina hosts Catania, Atalanta visits Genoa, Palermo entertains Siena, Sampdoria invades relegation-battling Reggina, Roma hosts Cagliari and Lazio makes the trip to Udinese.
